Bunkai to Shotokan Kata Empi

22/09/2009

Sensei Paul James (5th Dan) takes you through a possible Bunkai to Empi.

Important:  This is a possible bunkai to Empi.  So before thousands of you keyboard warriors start foaming at the mouth saying that it is wrong or a corruption of Shotokan, remember the most important words to live by…

Movement & Variety.

If you can’t see that there are at least 1,000,000 different ways to do anything, then you are not going to be able to adapt to life and you will become extinct (and i’m not going to miss you :))

If you like this, make sure you get the DVD it came from.  It’s our

Guide to Advanced Shotokan Kata.

You can get it by going to our shop by clicking here.

    Hi Paul.
No complaints from this “keyboard warrior” 🙂

I think your applications are practical and workable. As we will never know the original intentions of the masters who created these kata’s, I think any debate about the kata’s bunkai is good. The founding masters did not limit themselves to a certain knowledge base without experimenting, why should we. With so many martial arts these days advertising that they are “reality based”, I think (being a fellow Shotokan guy) that it is very important that we keep our art practical, relevant and workable.
Keep up the good work 🙂
