It is SO difficult to get hold of fruit and veg here!

04/02/2011

I just remembered a chat I had with a friend the other day.  We were discussing healthy eating, and he mentioned that it is so difficult to get hold of fruit and veg these days.

Pardon?

Fruit - more available now than ever before.

Fruit - more available now than ever before.

Here in Skipton, a small rural town, we have a Tescos, Morrisons, Marks & Spencers all within a 5 minute walk of each other.  We have a market right in the centre of town 3 days a week selling fresh produce from the local farmers.  In the town next door we have Asda and Sainsbury.

With all these supermarkets, the second you step through the front door you are in the fruit and veg section!  It is not possible to get to any other part of the store without walking through isles head high full for fruit and veg!  Not only that, but there are so many different types of fruit and veg, that I simply do not know what half of them are.  The variety is simply amazing!

Coming home from training last night, I walked into Tescos at 10pm and bought a coconut!  Last week me and my Sarah got some Lychee  (I’ve never had any before, but GOD it was nice and juicy!).  We have never had such a wide variety and abundance of fruit and veg available on our doorstep 24 hours a day.

So I have this advice to anyone out there having trouble getting hold of fruit and veg…

  • Walk into your local supermarket.
  • Take 10 paces then stop.
  • Open your eyes and look around you.

Aaah I was up in Skipton in December! Born in Keighley but lived in Devon for 20 years, it was nice to go home for the weekend.

Spent the day looking around the town, bought some cheese from the market. Lunch in Wetherspoons and then fish and chips! Good day out!
